Frequently Asked Questions
* What is your style, Philip?
I capture in a photo journalistic or editorial style. This means capturing your day as it really is-without interruptions from start to finish. A candid documentary approach and a distinctly artistic vision towards your wedding photography. A limited amount of group and posed shots if requested are included (aprox 6-10) . In other words, you'll receive in photographs a direct reflection of your day.
* Do you tell people what to do?
No. I do not direct. I observe and capture unobtrusively.
* How many images do you shoot?
It varies with every wedding so there is no set answer. However, I'm not a machine gunner hoping to get lucky shots. I think, anticipate and react to moments ensuring great images every time. My philosophy is the old adage 'less is more'.
* Apart from wedding photojournalism, is there anything else do do?
I like to shoot for fun,. I'm working on some documentary projectsI with a few head-shots and model shoots thrown into the mix. I also document my two little ones daily lives.
I'm also a dad who spends an awful lot of time with my two year old daughter. Being a full time professional photographer and self employed has its merits. In-between meeting happy couples, editing, album designing and oh yeah, taking photographs for a living, I look after my two little girls and change allot of diapers (totally confused my mom and dad in England when I first used that word-we call them 'nappies')..........Life is brilliant....
* Do we get a choice of Black and White or color?
Brides trust me to choose according to my artistic interpretation. It's a blend of color and black and white. I take great care over the final prints and all are adjusted to reflect 35mm film emulsions. i just love that look of color not too saturated and beautiful black and white emulsions.
* When must I choose the design?
Aim to have your final approval within 60 days of the release date as the whole process can otherwise get delayed with other clients weddings and I may not be able to give it my full attention as you deserve.
* How long will it take to receive my album?
Delivery will depend on how long you take to order. I personally custom design all my albums. All albums designs and on-line proofing are available for sixty days once they have been released to you. You're allowed up to three free design changes. Generally, it can take up to eight weeks once the design is approved by you. However, your design will be one of a kind and well worth the wait.
* What do I need to book you for our wedding?
A $1,000 retainer which goes toward your final balance and a signed contract will secure your date with me. All bookings are on a first come, first served basis.
* How do we know it will be you who shoots our wedding?
I personally shoot all of my weddings.
* What about engagement or bridal sessions?
Most include a bridal or engagement session. Top packages include both. It's a great way to get to know you both and vice versa. This way, you can relax on your wedding day knowing that I will get great images and I'll be one less person to worry about. If you don't want a bridal or engagement shoot, that's fine too.
* What camera gear do you use?
Professional Nikon equipment.
* Do you employ assistants on the day?
An assistant is included in most of my packages.
* Do you have liability insurance?
Yes.
* Do you carry back up equipment?
Yes.
* What about formals? I've heard you photo journalistic types don't like taking formals :-)
I'll take formals, these straight forward photos are in integral part of your day. 30 years from now, you and your kids will probably look back on them, have a laugh and then seriously see how gorgeous you look in your formal/wedding dress, and how those sideburns were really short then in 2010. Elvis style sideburns in 2039 will be back in fashion:-)
My aim is to keep the formals to a short list. I want you to go ahead and have a good time at the reception so I can continue to get amazing shots of the two of you. Keep in mind why you're hiring a documentary photographer. If, two to three hours of formal shots is what you have in mind, then it's quite possible I might not be your cup of tea.
* What albums do you use?
Exclusively GraphiStudio.
* How far will you travel to shoot a wedding?
I'm available anywhere in Texas and everywhere else. My commissions can take me anywhere in the world. Email or call 1-210-833-1168.
